Vermont CRNA Profile of the Month

Get to know Vermont CRNA's

December 2010 Profile

John Hergert , CRNA.

Answers from VTANA Member John Hergert

1)Where do you work?
Rutland Regional Medical Center

2) Where did you go to anesthesia school?
The University of Pennsylvania

3) How long have you been a CRNA?
I started working as a CRNA in August 2009.

4) Why did you become a CRNA?
I really enjoyed thinking about the physiology of my patients, and being able to individualize the science and art of anesthesia to every patient's needs is what made me want to do become a CRNA. That, and the power of what we do, which is taking a person's life in our hands every case, still amazes me.

5) Do you have an area of interest in anesthesia?
Right now, as a relatively new CRNA, my area of interest is just continuing to learn from others and do the best I can every day. In the future, I think I would really like to get into education.

Personal
1) Family information : I have been married to my wonderful wife Kathleen since July '09.  No children as of yet. But we have a 6 month old Golden Retriever, Raleigh, who keeps us very occupied. Our families are in Philadelphia, PA and Whitesboro, NY.

2) Hobbies or Pastimes: When I'm not working, I'm usually skiing, hiking, rock climbing (my new sport), listening to music, or watching one of my Philly sports teams. Go Birds!

Thought Provoking

1) Who inspired or encouraged you early in your life which contributed to where you are today? I have to give credit to my parents. They constantly pushed me to succeed without being overbearing about it. But they were always leaning me in the right direction. Without their encouragement, I probably would not have continued to try and make more of myself.

2) If by magic you could create or invent something that could be used in your anesthesia practice, what would that be?
A pager tone that softly wakes me up in the middle of the night, rather than scaring me out of my wits.

VTANA Membership Profiles

Help us to get to know each other across the state. A CRNA will be chosen each month to be on our "Profile Page". We will be asking the same questions as listed below.
Contact Carroll Ruhlman if you have a co-worker you would like to see spotlighted, or you may be contacted directly. When contacted, supply a digital photo and answers to our questions and "you're on the net!"
